Automotive

Tips Hamil - If you are a vehicle owner and you have had to have automotive transmission repair, you know how expensive this can be. Sad to say, automotive transmission repair becomes even more expensive if the vehicle owner does not know much about it and falls prey to unscrupulous auto service mechanics. You should, therefore, find yourself a highly skilled and trustworthy auto service mechanic who can do excellent diagnostic work and car repair, including complicated automotive transmission, engine and brakes repair and simple auto AC repair, while also educating you about the automotive transmission repair services you may need for your Tampa vehicle. This way, you will not find yourself needing the towing services of a tow truck unexpectedly.

There are basically two major types of automotive transmission repair – one that needs the removal of the entire transmission system and one that does not. Minor repairs or adjustments that do not need the removal of the entire transmission system from the vehicle are, of course, less expensive.

In computer controlled transmission systems, problems in shifting may be due to inaccurate signals sent by faulty sensors, a defective solenoid pack or defective connections that interfere with the commands sent by the computer to the transmission system. Such problems are often seen in newer vehicle models that have been manufactured since the Nineties, bearing more modern transmission systems. The repair of such problems does not need the removal of the entire transmission system from the vehicle.

In older models of vehicles that do not have computer controlled transmission systems, shifting problems may point to the need for throttle cable adjustment. The throttle cable is not damaged by the normal wear and tear that the vehicle goes through. Usually, the damage is caused by an accident or even by faulty adjustments done in previous repairs. This is what happens when the vehicle owner tries to cut costs by going to cheap but unreliable auto service shops or mechanics.

Take note that some vehicles have a vacuum modulator instead of a throttle cable. Some vacuum modulators can be repaired by merely adjusting a screw. Of course, your auto service mechanic should first check for any vacuum leaks. Furthermore, your auto service mechanic should check your vehicle's engine since many vehicle problems that seem to be related to the transmission system are sometimes found to be engine related.

Some types of transmission repair involve transmission parts replacements. Some of these can also be done without removing the entire transmission system from the vehicle. Merely removing the oil pan, for example, can already bring access to many control parts and electrical parts. Some auto service shops, however, will refuse to give warranties for these types of external transmission repairs if they have not had the chance to check for further internal transmission issues.

Another possible transmission system repair you may need is transmission resealing. You will know you need this if you find oil spots on the ground, parking slot or garage floor beneath your vehicle. This means your vehicle is leaking transmission fluid. This can happen even while your vehicle seems to be in good running condition. To check for leaks, your vehicle will have to be mounted on a lift at the auto service shop. Leaks found on external gaskets and seals can be sealed without removing the entire transmission system from the vehicle. If the leak is in the front seal, however, you will have no choice but agree to have the transmission lifted out for repair. This will cost you more.

Undeniably, a vehicle owner who is better equipped with knowledge on automotive transmission repair services is in a better position to discuss these things with a Tampa auto service mechanic. You will be less likely swindled out of your hard earned money.
